||The Lower Kuskokwim School District is Alaska's largest rural school district with over 4,000 students, 400+ teachers and 27 schools. The district is located 400 air miles due west of Anchorage Alaska and is about the size of West Virginia. The is no road access. You fly by jet from Anchorage to Bethel and then take small bush planes to surrounding villages where transportation is by snow machine or ATV in the winter and boat or ATV in the summer. The district is comprise of 5 larger schools in Bethel (Population 6,000) and 22 small village K-12 schools in the 21 surrounding villages.
